The possibility that a solar storm 2012 will strike the planet Earth has many people wondering what effects extremely powerful solar flares will have on our world. The last time a powerful solar storm occurred in the 19th century, many people noticed that telegraph poles burst into flame or were otherwise rendered inoperable. Now that most people on the planet are dependent on advanced technologies and electricity, even in developing countries, how will they be affected by such a storm?

The solar storm 2012 brings will not cause the kind of nightmarish damage you might see in a film. These flaming arms of the suns energy will not burn people on the surface of the Earth, though there may be days when the suns rays can cause more damage. The real effects of the solar storm will be more subtle but much more damaging. These storms have happened before. In the past, only astronomers may have been aware of the change in solar activity. This time around, all people will notice because everyone uses electronic devices.

However, this is not just a problem that will deprive people of their iPods and their laptop computers. Navigational systems may be damaged to such an extent that long distance flights become impossible. GPS systems, dependent as they are on satellites in orbit around the Earth, will suffer similar damage. Many people fear that this return to 19th century technology will send the civilizations back into a dark age because of massive damage to our power grid.

Consider the large cities around the world that depend upon electric pumps in order to bring up water supplies from ground water. They also use electric systems to remove waste water. Once fresh water cannot be obtained and waste water cannot be removed, the health of residents in these cities will likely suffer greatly.

It is also possible that humanity will recover from the disaster that a solar storm 2012 might bring. It would take great cooperation and a severe alteration of the way that people live. Food supplies would all have to be local for a long time. Areas that are not surrounded by arable land would become dependent on other areas which would not be able to transport great quantities of food very quickly. Furthermore, areas with arable land and food surpluses would surely charge a great deal of money for these services.

Even imagining that people manage to cooperate, however, still leaves the long-term future in doubt. Without electrical power, sowing and reaping the large crops that have previously sustained Earths large population of humans would be impossible. At the very least, people would have to survive on a lot less food. More likely, conflicts would break out over the limited food supply.

Preparing for a solar storm 2012 means dealing with a long-term food shortage and the inevitable changes to a society without power. Individuals with stored food and alternate sources of power will be positioned the best to survive such a calamitous event.

From the Editor

I've spent years preparing my family to survive any situation. We live in an active hurricane, flood and earthquake zone and I'm concerned about other factors in today's world that can cause a breakdown of the basics in our way of life.

After my own experience, I wanted to make it fast and easy for others to prepare, so I've assembled these products in our online store for simple navigation and purchase.

I hope you enjoy our store and site. I welcome your feedback!
